Alexander Denker, PhD, is a Health Policy Fellow at the Georgia Institute of Technology Center for Advanced Science Communications Policy. Alexander completed his doctorate in Psychology with a concentration in Neuroscience and Animal Behavior at Emory University.

Alexander is particularly interested in policy and technology applications of behavioral health research. Through a collaboration with the Rollins School of Public Health, Alexander is currently examining the contributions of depression and personality factors to alcohol and marijuana use in adolescents and young adults, including about can alcohol cause anxiety.

Prior to starting his studies at Emory, Alexander was a research fellow and recipient of an Intramural Research Training Award at the National Institute of Mental Health Child Psychiatry Branch’s Section on Brain Imaging under the auspices of Dr. Jay Giedd.

Alexander graduated from the Gallatin School of Individualized Study at New York University with a concentration in “The Neuroscience of Art.” He studied neuroscience with a focus on integrating the humanities dealing with the cultural theory of art and music. While conducting brain-imaging research on aesthetics at the NYU Center for Brain Imaging NYU with Dr. Ed Vessel and Dr. Gabrielle Starr, Alexander pursued two primary independent projects on American cultural identity through study of the music and photography of the Jazz Age and another on music and spirituality.
